Chrome 80 may impact SSO Authentication

Rally Software®
We have recently been made aware of a change in the upcoming Chrome version 80, to be released Feb 4, 2020, where the default "SameSite" value will be set to "Lax" rather than the current value, "None". This will prevent cookies that do not explicitly set the "SameSite" flag from being shared with third-party sites.

Our Engineering team performed testing with the Chrome changes enabled, and did not find any practical impact to SSO logins using our SSO provider, either IdP-initiated or SP-initiated. However, this change still may impact some SSO users accessing Rally via Chrome 80, so mitigation may be necessary.

In order to mitigate this issue, the following mitigations may be possible:

For centrally managed Chrome deployments:
  • Set the policy “LegacySameSiteCookieBehaviorEnabled”, as described here

For individually managed Chrome instances:
  • Manually disable the “same-site-by-default-cookies” flag:
  • Go to chrome://flags in your address bar
